The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), led by Dean Katherine P. Sanchez-Escalona, successfully conducted its first college-wide undergraduate research colloquium, “Intersections of Inquiry: An Undergraduate Research Colloquium,” on February 27, 2026 via Zoom.
The event gathered over 130 student-researchers and faculty members, fostering interdisciplinary exchange among Political Science, English Language Studies, and Environmental Science students and reinforcing the College’s commitment to research excellence.
Representing Dr. Enya Marie Apostol, SUC President III was Dr. Ciedelle P. Salazar, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, who emphasized the value of collaboration across disciplines, noting that innovation emerges when perspectives converge.
Vice President for Research, Innovation, Technology, and Extension Leonel C. Mendoza challenged students to produce evidence-based studies that address root causes and contribute to informed decision-making.
Resource speaker Dr. Emelina Mandia from the De La Salle University–Manila highlighted the biodiversity of Mount Halcon, citing key findings, including 206 documented fern species and several endemic moss and gymnosperm species found on the mountain.
Fifteen undergraduate research works were presented during the colloquium. Following the event, Dean Sanchez-Escalona expressed gratitude for its success and shared plans to hold future editions in a face-to-face format to further strengthen research engagement in the Liberal Arts and Sciences.
